Mother's Day has grown more special to me as I have become a mother myself, though not for reasons you may think. It's not a day to celebrate me and receive gifts (though I won't turn them down ;) ), it's a way to celebrate the life that we, as mothers, have brought to this earth and the miracles and joys that come with it.
Motherhood has been the greatest gift I have ever experienced; the amount of love that you feel for the child that you bring into this world is unlike anything I have ever felt before or since. Being a mother brings out strengths you didn't know you possessed, and shows you the deepest love there is. Being a mother for nine years now, I don't recall what life was like before this season of life, nor do I care. I wouldn't change where life has brought me if given the chance.
Today I was able to spend the day with my beautiful daughter, who wrote me a wonderful poem that brought tears to my eyes, and which I will be framing as soon as I get a frame, along with my grandma, whom has always been a constant in my life. Today was about family and good food. I spent yesterday and this morning cooking up a delicious meal: chicken, mushroom & spinach crepes with a mushroom dill sauce, a 3 bean salad, zucchini bread and coconut cake (which I've had about 4 pieces of so far today!).
Happy Mother's Day to all those amazing mommas out there. I hope your day was as special as mine. And let me know if you're interested in the recipes from my own Mother's Day brunch today.
